About Us
The Riptide team is a dedicated and innovative group that is excited to explore ways in which we may better restore, inform, and preserve our natural world. We are a student-led organization, with team members located across the U.S. For our members on the coast, it is especially crucial to us that we prioritize the health of our seas. Our inland members are just as important to our mission; with our founding location being the D.C. area, we also understand the ongoing need to protect and safely manage bodies of water like the Chesapeake Bay. Being a young organization, we hope to incorporate people from all walks of life into our journey. We are looking forward to what the future holds with new partnerships, projects, and a generation of well-informed and proactive individuals hoping to better this planet we call home.

Our Story
“Someone else is going to do it,” Dalilah Nativi had heard the excuse long enough. Nativi says she has always had a passion for marine conservation. The start of her advocacy for sea life began as young as fifth grade when she discovered her love for sea turtles and a friend’s love of whales. Together the young pair researched and worked with adults to host small cleanups. Nativi says, “We wanted to try to make an impact the way that we can.” Since then, her drive to make our world a safer and cleaner place has only grown. Riptide is the next step in Nativi’s long term goal to get more people involved in preservation of our wildlife. Years later when Nativi stumbled upon old papers about her original project goals, the idea of Riptide was born. She aims to continue to lead the project for the foreseeable future, with many ideas, outreach opportunities, and goals to come.
